Black honeycomb stuff blown through ac vent

Some black honeycomb lookin stuff has blown through my climate control vents. looks like some kind of filter media. Anyone have this problem and or knows whats going on? Not too woried but the stuff is there for a reason.

sounds like the sealing material that is used in the vents and on blend doors.

Exactly.

I had this on my '87 ranger. I took the dash apart and replaced all the "sealed" foam areas with denser foam from some packing boxes at work. Increased my airflow too. But my Ranger dash is soooo easy to take apart....
