Yesterday I took my 91 Cherokee out to the lake and when I would go up hill every now and then my jeep would almost die when I'd hit the gas. It doesn't do it on the road only on the dirt and I'd have to turn it off and pump the gas a bit and then it would be fine for a while before doing it again. Also my fuel pump was whining kinda loudly. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like fuel starvation. The pump and sender unit is in the front of the tank so going up hill would have all the gas go to the back of the tank. Your sending unit may be bad leading you to think you have enough gas.
