Default Best XJ Years

I was wondering what years are the best when it comes to the XJs. I want the bigger fuel tank, 242TC, and front axle without vacuum disconnect. I guess what Im asking is what years should I look for?

No, not all of them. My 89 had a fifteen gallon fuel tank, and a 4.0 liter engine. As a matter of fact, I don't think any came with a 20 gallon tank, my current XJ has an approx. 18 gallon tank.

As for the CAD on the front axle, any XJ with a 242 from 1987 on will not have the CAD. HTH!!

That helps alot. I didnt know they didnt have more specific years as far as drivetrain was concerned. It sounds like they were a random for TCs? Thanks guys for the info. I found one that sounds like a possibilty. Its a 93 with an auto and 4.0L. It has a four inch lift and a set of nice tires and rims. That would save a little, although he does want $2200.......I think I might be able to get a nicer one, I dont know. Kinda the wrong color too. We'll see.

Check this link, it has a lot of useful info. As far as the vac disco is concerned, no XJs from 92 up were equipped with it. For those built 91 and back if you have a NP231 tcase it will have vac disco, the NP242 tcase did not. 95 and up has the larger stronger u-joint on the front axle shafts.
