I have an 01 XJ limited with 74k miles on it and would like to replace the steering stabilizer. What do you recommend is the best steering stabilizer for a stock XJ? I'm leaning towards the Old Man Emu one. Thanks

 

a lot of guys here will tell you that you don't need one. but i say if it isn't needed, it wouldn't have one from factory.

i use a coil over unit from trail master. it's their 4way unit.

 

I am one who says you dont need one but If you do I would run the ranchos there real nice

 

the OME ones are good those would be just fine. the coil over one is major overkill IMO i can think of many things i would rather put the money into

I know the rough country ones are nice. Not expensive nor over kill like the one pictured above. A mechanic I work with has a 2500 cummins diesel and bought the RC dual stirring stabalizer. He loves it. He also has the RC 6.5 inch lift kit with 35s. Says handles well. I'm planning on getting one very soon. RC is the way I'm going.

if its still got a dana 30 in it than it is overkill. its also my opinion never said they were bad just that $120 vs $51 for the rancho is major overkill especially since its a stock cherokee.

 

I'm not sure with the coil over, will have to talk with Caged on that construction. He definately needs top notch control for longevity with the 36's. Now in stock condition and OEM from Chrysler will do very well. Else local parts distributors will offer 2 or more alternatives. When it comes to parts you don't have to buy the best, but never buy the worst, get a name brand in mid to upper price offering.

 

My 85 is still stock with a Pro Comp stabilizer. For 30 bucks I couldn't argue.

Again, it depends on the setup. The D30 is just one part of the setup, and that alone doesn't dictate what else is necessary, or what else is on the rig.

Stock, sure, its indeed overkill. But it really depends on what goals are set for the truck.

Someone like Caged could use one, and he never said it was needed for the OPs truck. There is nothing wrong with sharing all options available.

by that logic you have to run a 4 link suspension and 3 link and radius won't work... lol we all know that is not the case

that fact of the matter is there are several things that come on your Jeep that you don't really have to have...

if you are wanting a new stabilizer to deal with vibes then don't even bother... it is just a bandaid

 

I bought one from NAPA for under 36 bucks. They tell me it's made by Monroe. It's definitely sturdier than the original with a bigger barrel. My 99 XJ is stock with moderate off-roading. It seems to have eliminated the little wobble that I had.

 

A dual stabilizer is overkill for a XJ...full size is a different story.

It didn't stop it...it is just masking it.

If you want to run one, get a stock or single aftermarket stabilizer.
