Belt still squeaks, chirps, squeals, even after new belt and idler pulley!

Today i replaced the belt to a nice Goodyear Gatorback belt hoping it would fix the squeak i got over a month back. a week after the squeak i also replaced idler tensioner pulley. The damn jeep still squeaks! I tightened the belt to were its decently hard to twist 90 degrees. Is it a pulley? is it allignment of the pulleys? is it a bearing? anyone have this problem with brand new belt and idler pulley? could greasing fix the problem?

thanks in advance

does having your ac on or off change it? i had to tighten the heck out of mine to get it to stop.

Is it possible that one or more of the pulleys has something on it (belt dressing, etc)? If so, remove the belt and clean the pulleys w/ brake cleaner.

Also, these engines seem to like alot of tension on the belt.

the clutch doesnt even engage whether its on or off. would it still make a difference because i honestly havent tried yet. could you get the belt to turn half way with just your fingers/wrist?

would carbon cleaner work the same?

Like Navy, I had to tighten the crap out of mine to get rid of the squeek. Mine would only happen when it was hot and I ran the AC, but a little tightening never hurt a belt. I have been running on it for more than five years and 100,000 miles.

mine usually only on startup for 3-20 seconds depending on outside temp. or if i have the defrost or ac on it puts a lil load on it and squeels on up. belt dressing is a bandaid. you can tighten it quite a bit without having issues and get rid of that annoying squeeal

While its chirping. Spray some dang WD 40 on each pulley. Once you find the one that quits chirping replace those bearings. How hard is that even a girl can figure that out.

no need to spray a thing. just tighten it a little at a time until it goes away. worked for me. too tight kills other bearings...like the alternator ;)

Just keep tightening. Mine's the same way. New belts stretch. Just takes some more and more tightening. You can spray carb cleaner while it's running to help clean the pulleys and tell if the bearings are OK for them also..

alright guys, tightening did the trick. it still slightly squeaks but its much better. everywhere tells me it should be able to twist at a 90 degree angle but with how hard i had to tighten it, that isnt possible
