If you can play music on the belt its too tight.
Belt should have about .75 inch of bendable flex in it when you press against it with your hand. And you shouldn't have to be strong arming it.
Belt needs enough tension to provide friction to turn accessories. More than that and you start flexing the pulleys/shafts which then wears out the bearings.
The High pitched noise "could" be a bearing starting to go out.
Power Steering PS pump normally will whine when low on fluid and squeal if the belt is slipping. Altenaters squeal if the belt is loose.
So if you can play the bango on your belt, loosen it a bit and figure about .75 inch of mild strength flexing in the belt.
