Default Battery Temperature Sensor?

Has anyone experienced problem related to their Battery Temp Sensor?
I know there's not a lot of talk about this part and most people don't know they exist on their Xj. I was testing my 5v Reference signal to diagnose a misfire (now fixed) and stumbled onto this wire and begin to research its function. It appears like this sensor can control timing related functions any opinions on this?
Also curious if anyone has experienced one malfunctioning.

Yes, but any issues I've ever had were things like over/under charging.

I was getting overcharging a few years back...traced it to the temp sensor pigtail, the battery tray had been removed at some point, and the pigtail got caught under the tray...over time, the insulation on the pigtail wore through, caused a short, and the charging condition. Replaced and all was well.
