Default Battery Drain Help

1998 XJ 4.0l

Hi

I have had a battery drain since i've had the jeep.

Thanks to this forum i found out how to test her. When i jump across the + Battery terminal to the disconnected + Lead the test bulb will light brightly for about a second then die completely amd then has no glow. If i then reconnect the bulb straight away it will light the bulb for the same amount of time but only dimly this continues to happen every time you touch the two together.

I've yet to pull any fuses but is there anything that would light the test bulb in this way and not light it continuously.

All opinions appreciated.

Hi
I put a test bulb between the neg post and neg cables and the test bulb is showing a permanent light.

Pulled the fuses and i've tracked it down to the power distribution centre and a 15a fuse which runs

" Junction block, TCM and underhood lamp/switch "

Is this lit because i have the bonnet open or possibly something running from the Junction block ( where is the junction block ?) or the TCM?

Any help is appreciated.

Update.

The light was glowing because the underhood light was drawing power.

However the light is operating the same when i tested it on the positive side i.e. it will light up for a second before dying then dimmer if you touch regularly.

Hi

Traced the drain down to two fuses in the power distribution centre

20A fuse for the power amplifier and a 10a fuse for sentry key immobiliser

The amplifier fuse is drawing most of the power and the immobiliser is very dim and is not drawing much ( hardly lights the test lamp at all )

Any views on the above and why the amplifier is drawing power?

Default Similar Situation

Battery drain driving me crazy. My battery was old so I replaced it today, but I just went outside tonight and noticed all four parking lights were glowing dimly. I was never unable to get them off no matter what I tried. Other things I've had recently were that the fan motor would not turn off and/or there was an irratic clicking under the dash. Tonight I finally pulled the 40 amp Ignition Off Draw (IOD) fuse in the Power Distribution Center under the hood to get them off for tonight. I hope someone will tell me what to do before I go stark raving mad!!!!!! Help!

I don't know much about electrical systems but there's a few guys on here that do. I'm sure someone will chime in later with a reply about your problem.
And Welcome to CF.

Cool

Sounds like you have more than one thing happening at the same time....as far as your fan not turning off.....the 'high speed blower motor relay' is defective or shorted to power, also could be the blower motor module has failed.

If you have auto headlamps , you need to know that the autolamp relay is wired in series with the park lamp relay. If they are just 'glowing' then you have a short to power. theses relays are wired hot at all times meaning that they have battery voltage on pin 30 at all times. When you find the location of this short to power on the park lamps you will more than likely fix your draw at the same time.
