Depends if you have the tour package or not.

My '00 is rated for 2000lbs with out tow package. With tow package its rated for 5000lbs per owners manual.

Class 3 receiver hitch, heavy duty tranny cooler (autos), and sometimes deeper gears I think. Oh and the trailer harness!

I'm going to have to splice my own wiring for the hitch and harness I picked up the jy this weekend. Ugh...

I believe 2000 lbs is max towing with manual tranny. The clutch is usually the weak link when it comes to towing. Max tow 5K lb capacity requires 4.0L, auto tranny, HD cooling and auxiliary tranny cooler.

I'm going to upgrade my xj for towing like mentioned above but I only got the hitch for recovery reasons. IF I tow anything it will be a small trailer with quads.

Add a trans cooler and make sure your cooling system is in good shape.
