Ball joints doubts
 

I'm about to change my ball joints and I need some answers.
first, I have a 95 2wd and i'm 90% sure that it uses the same BJ as a 4x4. Right?
second, I was looking the spicer/Dana bjs but I realized the pressed surface is smooth it not has the splines so it won't work. Right?
third, Some say Moog brand is not what is used to be so I'm considering the ac delco (more cheap) what you think?
I'm not sure what kind of brand I have it was a long time ago when it was replaced and i don't remember. The roads from where I drive are not as good as I like so I need something that will hold. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

I forgot to mention that due to the ball joints being bad my tires wear from the inside causing a death wobble in highway speeds.

If the existing ball joints have smooth surfaces, you should continue to use a smooth surface. If they have splines, then you will need to use splines again.

Either Spicer or Moog brand would probably work just fine for you. I preferred Spicer when I replaced mine. The price was not unreasonable. I don't have experience with the AC Delco ball joints, but in generally the AC Delco parts I have purchased have all been of sufficient quality. I would never go with a cheap no-name ball joint. But any of the 3 you mentioned are probably fine. I haven't seen any strong discussion here regarding avoiding any of those brands you mentioned. The attitude towards Moog has been changing over the last 3 years (downwards), but the Moog parts I have purchased/used have all been very good so far.

The Spicers are supposed to be smooth. That's what came from the factory. If it was me I'd just go with the Spicers. I just checked Rock Auto and you can get a full set of Spicers for about 80 dollars.

Yeah I would like the spicer ones but I'm pretty sure it was replaced with a aftermarket one hence the questions about the splines. I wish I was more savvy then. Also is availability, where I live we only have mopar and the three major auto parts stores.

You probably need the splines. You can pick up a set with the splines, then when you have the old ones out, see if the old ones were smooth (in other words, if they are dana/spicer brand). Put the spicers in if you can and if not, put the splined joints in and return the set you don't use.

Like Jordan said, I'd feel comfortable with any of the Spicer, Moog or AC-Delco.

I have Moog and they've been fine for the past year. If you do get the Moog make sure you have a needle tip grease fitting to grease the lower joints.

Go with the spicers. Do it right the first time so your not back in there. crappy job to do twice. I also have a Ram 2500 Cummins. When I was searching forums (yes different part and application) there was a ton of qualty issues reported with the moogs. Unfortunately one the balljoints had been replaced by the PO with a splined balljoint. I went with the top line napa for that joint.
