bad wheel cylinder??

Default bad wheel cylinder??

hey guys, my 97 xj started making a bad squeek, not from hitting the brakes, but from lifting my foot off the brake pedal. i narrowed it down to the drivers side rear, but idk how to tell if its bad or thats the problem. also the wheels seem to lock a little after braking when i hit the gas. any suggestions?

it hasn't stopped and its really annoying, any thoughts from anyone?

If you know how to repair and adjust brakes pull the drum and take a look. If not take it to a repair shop for a diagnosis.

The springs may need replaced on the shoes. If they are original then they have lost thier tension and won't let them release. If the cylinder goes bad then you will have fluid on the wheel and dripping from the drum.

I would recommend a complete brake overhaul.. assuming they've been somewhat neglected in the past. New wheel cylinders, hardware (springs etc.) Shoes/pads and at least get the drums and rotors turned if it can be done within specs. The 'adjusters' can usually be taken apart, cleaned, and re-used. All new shiny parts, fresh fluid and peace of mind for a couple hundred bucks (probably half that if you can DIY) I don't think you'll regret it.
