Default bad acceleration and weird clunk noise. help

Hi got a 96 Xj sport. I have a really bad acceleration problem. It happens slight when i accelerate sometimes but when i speed up to pass someone it's like it's a manual and i can't drive. Now about the clunk noise i was on a slight incline in the dirt and i kinda got on it but it sorta kinda chugged and wouldn't go and theres this hard clunk that would happen as long as i was on the gas. please help frustrated.

Could be something related to your rear end ... pinion, driveshaft u joint, gears etc.

4WD Jeeps have U joints in the axle shaft. There's even one in the front left.

Put the Jeep up in stands and start turning and yanking on things with your hands. You'll find something loose.

Okay I'll double check my u joints i don't want to sound like idk what I'm doing i did the 4x4 conversion on mine myself I'm just not the best with words it hard to explain but the u joint seems okay and it only happens when the Jeep is bogging down under a load and I'm going to replace tps and o2 sensors honey that'll fix the acceleration issue as the noise idk I'll put her on stands tonight

Definitely check the motor mounts (particularly driver side)
I destroyed mine a few months ago on the trail and if I nail the throttle it makes a horrible banging from the engine trying to jump through the hood. Can't wait for my brown dogs to arrive...

The motor mounts shouldn't cause bad acceleration, just the noise. Being down on power randomly is always a ***** to diagnose

Any error codes??? What is the fuel pressure test results ??? Low fuel pressure will cause poor performance... The noise could be totally unrelated to the performance problem...

No CEL but i got my friend whos a better mechanic than i am hooking it up to a computer at his shop to see what he can do. As for the fuel pressure test not sure how to or what tools needed if I'm not mistaking there's a test port near or on the fuel rail?

So you did a 2wd conversion to 4....ok, and motor mounts are pretty shot up...mmhm....how does your exhaust look? Is the down pipe pinched?
