backspacing question

hey guys
i got a set of rims for free and i was wondering if i could use them they are 15x8x4.5 with a backspacing of 3.75 will those fit and what does the backspacing do for the ride and the looks.

fishtaconc 06-08-2010 07:21 PM

they will fit they will make the tire sit out further approx. 1" -1.25" depending on the bs of the stock wheels. just check local laws to make sure the tires dont stick out too far

mitchell561 06-08-2010 08:30 PM

soo is their a specific backspacing i need on my 99 xj or it doesnt matter

xjmarc 06-08-2010 08:47 PM

It all depends on the tire size and how wide a stance you want.

fadedblackxj 06-08-2010 09:09 PM

they will stick out a little. i think it looks great:thumbup1:

4in back spacing with 12.5 wide tire. just to give you an idea. 12.5 in tire on a 15x8 rim looks a little wider than if you where running a 10.5 on a 3.75 back spacing

sorry couldnt find a straight on shot

mitchell561 06-08-2010 10:31 PM

hey how can i messure the backspacing and make sure all the rims are the same bc now that i look at it two of the rims look different

caged 06-08-2010 11:20 PM

lay the rim face down and put a straight edge across the rim. then measure from the straight edge to the wheel mounting surface.
