Thanks for that NAXJA link Jon. I also will be doing this soon on an 89'manche I am getting with a blown BA10 but I have a couple of transfercases already both 231 and 242. I have either 21 or 23 splines. So that is covered. My big question is about the internal vs external slave cylinders. I want to use an external slave and need to know which bell to get. I would consider jumping to a NV3550 if it pops up but I assume the bell must match that tranny. Will the 231/242s fit that tranny as well? Has anyone ever put a 242 behind a stick? I personally have never seen that combo but can't see why that would not work. Lots of questions that the NAXJA thread failed to answer.

From my understanding, didn't they have nv35xx in the 01 XJ? and/or other jeeps with 231s? If so, it should work. And I do not see why a 242 would not work behind a stick.

No reason why the NP242 won't work behind the AX-15 or the NV3550 - I'm planning on doing the same thing myself. You'll probably need an adaptable/adjustable shift linkage for the thing, you can call Novak for something suitable.

If I can find a D300 first, that will go in (gear drive over chain, natch) - but the NP242 is a good second choice - since I want every advantage I can get over these fools I have to share the road with (and FT4WD should be a decent advantage when it starts to, erm, "rain" out here.

(They call it rain. I got wetter when it was humid back home...)
