b&m 14.4K BTU Trans cooler install w/pics!
Got my trans cooler today from amazon 65 bucks shipped. It came with tons of parts for mounting and even converting fittings and barb couplers and 6ft of hose.
I wanted to mount the cooler as far away as i could from the condenser as not to directly heat it.
I did so by drilling two holes in the fiberglass vertical support behind the grill. and using the supplied through the core plastic rods I pushed the rods through the mounting holes on the core on the left side top and bottom.
Then i used one of the four supplied hole straps to mount the right side of the core bottom to an already existing hole behind the bumper.
then painted the silver hose clamps and hole strap black and reinstalled the grill.
i installed it after the "coolant heater" in the radiator. I haven't decided yet if i'm gonna bypass that and use this as a stand alone trans cooler, but i can very easily in the future.

Continue with the trans fluid thru the rad 1st then the BM Cooler. Nice install, best the way you did it with space to the rad itself. I've seen a couple monted on the rad and the rad fail 1-2 yrs later from rub thru. Nice work!

The search feature finally yielded results for me! I'll be doing this very install on my jeep this Wednesday. I've almost got the same model b&m cooler.

Those transmission coolers work great, I replaced my radiator and added the medium duty cooler on my 96xj and with pulling our 3000lb pop-up camper the temperature does not go over 210 degrees, even on 90 degree days. The only draw back I have is the temperature never reaches 180 espically during the winter. I am left with only warm air from the heater core. Wonder if anybod else has experianced this after adding a transmission cooler.

Don't think a tranny cooler can effect heater performance......weak heater sounds like a clogged heater core, heater door malfunction, no t-stat, 160F t-stat or stuck open t-stat.

This thread really helped! My install went flawlessly. The front grill seems to be a bit tighter on the earlier body style, the grill doesn't go flush anymore with the cooler in there

You're more likely to trap air in the cooler. The high flow volume in the hose will push the air down hill as the fluid can't go anywhere else. The way you have the cooler if air gets trapped in the top there's no way to push it out as fluid will just flow through the rest of the cooler below it.

two things.
does anyone have a link to the b&m cooler that was purchased on amazon?
two, i love the write up on the install of the actual trans cooler, but could someone explain which hoses need to be running where?

You run the hose from the cooler in the radiator to the lower port on the cooler, and then from the top port you run a hose back to the return line of the transmission.
On a side note I found that the OEM coolers used in mid-90's Chevy 2500 pickups are pert near the same as that B&M unit. A little more info on my install if anyone is interested is here.
