Go to a local junkyard or find someone on a message board that is selling some, either locally or that will ship.

mine are just stripped. I am also wondering if I am going to be able to switch the front axles on both sides myself? If so, what will I need?

tedrick92 Mar 24, 2009 09:37 PM

also, if the people at the shop told me that I need new axles, I am asuming they were talking about the axle shafts. Im not sure so im just wondering if I just need this part or will I need any others too?

www.car-part.com

get some info on what you really need. i've never seen both sides "stripped" lets hear some more background.

honestly i dont know much. I took it offroad and it started to make a weird noise so i took it to the shop and they told me that the noise was the busted bearing. He also told me that I would need new axles, rotors, and brake pads. I asked him if I could just fix the bearing for the time being and he told me that they would not stay in place because the axles were stripped so bad that they would not hold them in. So i ended up just driving it home because they wanted $1100 buck to fix it and i didnt have that kind of cash. on the way home the front right bearing completely busted causing the wheel to sit slanted.

take some pics, and put them up. something sounds pretty weird.

The axles dont hold the bearings in. Its the other way around. Like stated above never seen two axles strip but I guess theres always a first. Sound like you have sum bad hub bearings which are around 80 bucks a piece and take a couple hours to do both in your driveway

i believe some mechanic just wants all yer money!

matejcekautoworks Mar 25, 2009 08:34 AM

ya sumthing sounds fishy, honestly i've never heard of a stripped axle, could someone explain this to me?

You can strip the splines on a axle shaft.

ol"blue Mar 25, 2009 08:53 AM

Maybe the "mechanic" broke/left something loose, which failed on your way home, and that's what caused your cocked wheel condition?

axles

Ive got D30 axles for $45 per side complete. Bearing condition unknown.
