Default axle\tranny help?

i just baught a 92 jeep cherokee runs alright has 215xxx miles on it i paid a 100 bucks for it the tranny makes a terrible loud whining sound but for 100 bucks i ignored it now in 2 wheel drive non of the gears grab the drive shaft is still in tact but its almost like its not but it works in 4 wheel so is that the axle or my transfer case or what i dont have time to rip it apart now so im wondering what parts i should buy to maybe replace

definitely sounds like you chewed something in your rear axel up. Easy to tell, pull the rear diff cover and take a looksie

if it is working 4wd that is your front axle doing all the work,so I would suggest pulling off your rear diff cover and see how the rear gears look

Won't that let the lube out of the transfer case? unless there is some magical way to keep it in.

if you look at you TC your fill plug is lower than your slip yoke,so even if you lose some it wont be very much anyways.
