93 Charokee Sport. The drivers side rear axle moves in and out about 1/8", this seems like allot. what is warn here? Do the c-clips wear out? Do you replace them with thitker ones or?

I think it's OK, mine does and I saw a post on it on here before. I looked at mine when I discovered it and everything is fine inside, so I'd say your good unless it makes noise or causes a problem.

i dont know a whole lot about this, but i just rebuilt the diff. in my 93 xj... depending on what year axle you have, you may not have the c-clip style. The axles in mine i believe are factory originals and are dated 1988. The axle shafts bolt on from the outside, you dont even have to take the diff cover off to get them out. There are 4 bolts that fasten a plate onto the axle houseing that seem to pre-load the wheel bearings. i am not sure if the pre-load is adjustable or how to do it, but if you have bad wheel bearings i could see that giving you excessive end play. Just my 2 cents, i hope someone corrects me if i am mistaken.
