AX15-10-30w or gear oil

My gearbox grinds second if i dont granny shift perfectly its annoying if i shift to quick it crunches into gear.

What kind of oil should i change into my trans?

for hyundais, and dsm... ive always used redline mt90. id venture to say your syncros are ****ed. i have not looked into whether the mt90 will work, but redline is amazing for the syncro issues you are having. also, im not sure if it works, but gm syncromesh is great.

i have not yet tested these on jeeps, let alone looked into the materials used for the transmissions.

deff syncros u are not going to be happy when they go out for good lol

mine does that also, its not like a loud or aggressive grind its kinda like a light grind, like a churn or something and its only 2nd gear and only like right after i start it, ima change the tranny fluid here soon and see if that does it.

ill email redline now. but im telling you guys, redline mt90 does wonders for this same exact issue on hyundais. i actually just asked about this on another forum, only because i have a bunch of it. its not cheap, but it will solve your issue till you can get a new trans(you are going to need one)

The grinding/crunching sound actually between first and second is actually not that rare in AX-15s.... especially ones that have been getting the wrong fluid over long periods of time....

Redline MT-90 is a great fluid... it will quiet the noise down, and does not contain the sulfur that destroys your synchros.

I use Amsoil MTF which does exactly the same thing.

But.. if the synchros are far enough gone. There is nothing that is gonna stop the eventual need for them.

10W30 motor oil is the Mopar recommendation, but I'd prefer to use a gear oil, but you have to be careful to check that it's yellow metal safe because the synchros are made of brass. Personally, I'm gonna change mine out with Synchromesh because it's cheaper than Redline.

so its probably not a good idea to pump 10w-30 in my ax15 that already has synco problems and your saying i should run gear oil instead like syncromesh or something good like that.

What weight should I go with?

If your synchros are screwed, DO NOT use motor oil as there are no additives to preserve the life of them. Go with Pennzoil Synchromesh or you can go high class with Royal Purple Synchromax which is $13 a quart. They don't make different weights, though. Either of those should help your synchros last a little longer and are yellow metal safe. I'm changing my fluid tomorrow with Synchromesh, so I'll let you know how it goes. It also wouldn't hurt to go with Amsoil or Redline MT90. It's all up to you, but I just wouldn't use 10W30.

this is Amalie Elixir Full Synthetic GL5. I have done lots of research on it. I have called the tech line for the company. What they said is this:

"It has sulfur in it but its a polymer base sulfur. There are several different types of sulfur and this gear oil will NOT damage AX-15 syncos" (he knew all about the brass syncros in the AX-15. I asked him)

Amalie backs there oils 100%. I sell a lot of Amalie oil at work every day! Good stuff, no complaints EVER. Only happy customers.

I run it in my Ax-15. It makes 5th gear quiet, and shifts so smooth.

Yea your syncros are on the way out, not much you can do except replace them.
