AX-15 Transmission question
I got a 89 cherokee with the ax-15 5 speed transmission. i wanted to change the oil but i came across a problem. i cant get the fill or drain plug out. Is there s special tool for this? a 3/8s drive is to big and a 1/4 drive is 2 small and its not a Allen wrench. Autozone was no help. i have 222,000 miles on the transmission and i dont think the PO ever changed the oil. after my second gear syncros ceased to exist any more i figured now would be a good time to change the oil before something els happens.
-thanks

i just had my brother weld a 3/4" nut to the piece and i took it off that way. but i think it is a 7/16 square drive which you can get at sears. just measure it and then go get the right tool from sears

You can see the seam at the top of the BA-10. This seam runs along the entire top and bottom of the tranny.
But the BA-10 has a bad reputation of being a weak, failure prone tranny.

saying it is faiure prone is being nice...i am on my third one! i got my first one rebult by my uncle for parts cost only and then i split the case in half. i got my next tranny for $100 and it hasnt failed me yet, if it fails again i am going to a GM LT1 V8 and a 4 speed auto 700R4
