Default AX-15 swap - shaft question

I got the AX-15 and the output shaft measures 1 3/16" from the ring that holds the seal. Can anyone tell me what input shaft length i need for my NP231 t-case?

looks like the ax15 is a 23 spline count them to verify
and your 89? 231 TC is a 21 spline

1 3/16 so that would be the short shaft at 1.2

You will need to get another input gear or another tcase with the right gear. Advance Adapters has the gear for $190

I guess I wasn't clear. I understand the spline counts, and I know I need a new shaft. What I don't know is what year my transmission is out of. Therefore I need to know what input shaft for the 231 will mate to the transmission. Novak Conversions says there is three lengths. I'm trying to do this on the cheap, and I could get a transfer case for less than $200, if I can find out what shaft length I need.

Thanks,
Billy
