AW4 Trans. slippling and wont shift

Here recently my 96 auto, 4x4,6cyl has been what I want to say has been slipping into second or just not wanting to shift at all if I'm giving enough gas and not babying it.

I'll be driving from say a red light and it'll be going OK then it'll like slip into 2nd maybe a few hundred rpms sooner. If I'm on the throttle hard let's say to pass the other car from red light it won't shift at all until I let up.

Ran real good before. No signs of tranny problems before this. I keep up maintanence on it.

Idk wats going on. I got fluid. Never flushed it only topped off. Owned it for over 5 yrs. 208xxx miles.

rackem 10-10-2013 10:40 PM

do a fluid exchange.. not a flush..

go from there.

Pnguyen7 10-10-2013 10:55 PM

Yea I know that.

Pnguyen7 10-10-2013 11:03 PM

Let me clarify a Lil more. I've never had any signs of problems before. I'm fairly mechanically inclined. I'm not new to cars. It drove really strong. I've done a "fluid exchange"

I've drained a qt and added a at every once in a while over 5 yrs time. I have 33s on 3.55s. City driving. Again I say drove really strongly.I didn't baby it or beat the hell outta it. No tranny cooler other than stock in the radiator. No leaks. Its held its fluid. I don't need to add a lil every so often. Havent done anything but check it in about a yr and a half. Its held its fluid.

If there's more to add I'll post later

"Idk wats going on."

Nothing lasts forever, may want to start budgeting for a new transmission.

Pnguyen7 10-10-2013 11:14 PM

Yea idk whats going on. Just kinda started one day while driving. Still drives fine until it gets warmer.

And no your sarcasm isn't cool. And no I won't be a total douchebag back.

Pnguyen7 10-10-2013 11:17 PM

I'm already budgeting for a new tranny. Check Ohio roll call in great lakes section. been talking about it for about a week. Thanks.

Anyone that actually has helpful advice. No I'm not inpatient I'll wait for good advice and won't annoyingly bump.

Might take a look at your TPS and the TV cable adjustment.

Turbo X_J 10-10-2013 11:19 PM

What sarcasm? Check your OP, I quoted you.

Pnguyen7 10-10-2013 11:32 PM

Not fighting with you. Radi, I'll look into those. I really don't feel its a trans problem.

First thing I would do is drain ALL the fluid from the pan and replace it. 3 to 4 quarts generally. Dex/Merc only. What fluid did you use during your 1 quart drain and replenish deal?

Adjust the tV cable. Takes about 22 seconds to do.

Replace your TPS. The don't last forever.

Click on the link in my signature and refresh the trans connectors as outlined in Post #10.

Maybe the problem is that it has 208,000 miles on the tranny.

I doubt it.

Pnguyen7 10-11-2013 06:23 PM

I used Dex merc. I'm thinking its my 1st and 2nd shift Sol. It doesn't happen all the time.
