AW4 Delayed Shift

Ok so my '00 suddenly started shifting slowly between first and second gear. No check engine light or anything. I read about the kick down cable adjustment, should I try that?

2000 xj
193k
TPS is fairly new so I don't think its related, unless the auto zone POS broke already.

Job #1 is to verify fluid.

1. When was the last time fluid was changed?

2. What is the color of your fluid? Should be red

3. Is fluid at the correct level on the dipstick with a hot engine, exercised transmission?

How many miles on it? Wondering if a solenoid may be getting sticky or sluggish.

Can you clarify slow shifting? Do you mean slipping?

Do the adjustment. Take 5 minutes. Might not help and you move on. But if it does.........

My 96's solenoids, actually one of them, went south at around 191k. Symtom was it would not shift into second gear. Went straight from first to third. Since you have to drop the tranny pan you might as well replace all three and your filter as well. The difficult part is removing the pan and putting it back on. The solenoids took a couple minutes.

There is a way to test the solenoids before opening up the tranny. There are articles on how to do it on some of the XJ websites.

This worked perfectly, I must have knocked it out of alignment when i had to remove the cables to do my injector upgrade. Thanks everyone.
