Aw4 connector issues

So in my quest for a dd Cherokee I came across a 96 in decent condition that the owner said he swapped the trans on from a 96. Thinking its part of the crossover since the trans in it has a 9 pin connector if I remember correctly and the jeep side is only 7 I believe. My question is, is it something I could splice the old 7 pin tranny side connector into matching wire color and plug it in and go? Or is it something that I shouldn't bother with and pass on?

Pass on it. The 1996 XJ has too many issues that will bite you on your arse down the road.

Yea that's kinda what I'm thinking. There's a few more I wanna look at, just wanted to see if splicing in the other connector was feasible to get it shifting again. Don't need another Cherokee sitting in the garage next to the project one I've got now haha

Newer trans have an additional speed sensor, that's the additional two pins. You can ignore them.
I had a '96, that year does have it's quirks, in particular a non-available fuel pressure regulator. Even the used ones have mostly dried up. That could be a big problem one day.

Did they leave this one with the trans connectors hanging? Pass. You don't need someone else's chop-job.

I ended up settling on a 95 with an np242 tcase aw4 trans a factory swing gate and just a lil floor patch work. Much better off with that one than this one lol
