Aussie locker install

Chrylser 8.25 rear end 29 spline c-clip on a 97 cherokee. Do you have to remove the carrier to install the aussie locker? or can you install it in the rear end? Is the ring gear in the way?

I know you have to remove the ring gear, but I'm not sure if ya gotta take out the carrier bearing!

NO, NO, NO. You do not have to remove the carrier or the ring gear to install a Ausie Locker. That is the advantage of this type of locker. You only have to remove the 4 spider gears, from inside the carrier. The locker replaces the spider gears......

I thought the aussie replaces the whole carrier!?!? At least when I looked into getting 1 it looked like you were replacing the whole carrier (section that holds the spider gears)?

no its a lunch box locker not a full case locker. the aussie fits inside the carrier in the section that holds the spider gears. do some research and you will find your answer

I stand corrected!

when i did mine, i did it when i went to new gears. this locker can be removed and installed while the carrier is in side the diff. As stated above, it just replaces the spider gears and is very simple to use, all pins and springs...

well.......my dad decided not to rear the instructions and took out the whole carrier.....it was a pain to get back in but i finally got it in. everything is back together and now it makes a howling sound at about 30-40 mpg and above. im going to call a rear end shop i know and see if they can fix it. I probably have it off by a couple thousandths but im no rear end specialist....shouldn't have taken it out.....SOO my main question is do i need to get it lined up to specs by a rear end specialist?

so then why did you ask the question if you should take it to a shop?

Metlic53 05-16-2010 06:58 PM

to see if it would break in after awhile and stop. Thats what a few people were telling me...and id rather not spend money after i bought a 350 dollar locker.
