Default Aussie front locker questions?

I just put in an aussie locker and was wondering about a couple of things.I've read and been told that it is a torque activated locker, meaning that when you throttle down it engages. So you dont want to hammer down in turns or it will engage.I was wondering if this happen in two wheel,as well as four, and if it would still do so without the front drive shaft. It would seem to me it would being's the front shaft's are alway's moving regardless of 2wd or 4wd.And I just wanted to clarify for my own curiousity. Thanks

2wd has absolutely no effect on the locker.

in 4wd, you don't even have to get on the gas hard to engage the locker, as long as you are accelerating, it's engaging.
but if you're front end is up on the ridge, and have to get around a tree, when you're in 4wd and have to give'r to get the back wheels up, it's hard to turn around the tree. the locker wants to push you in a straight line.
that's where a selectable comes in handy. i have a disconnect axle with a posi lock to help me out in that situation. however, it's tough to turn a sharp right tho.

I agree with Caged. That one situation he described is the only time my front Aussie gives me any grief. I will say, though, that niether of my Aussies lock up under light throttle. If i really step on it in a corner then, yes, I can "make" it lock up and it torques over and tries to throw the rig sideways. I totally have to make it do that though. Normal driving it is fine on the road. Your front Aussie will never inadvertantely lock up on you on the road in 2WD because the locker requires torque from the driveshaft to do that. so, your wheels both spinning all day long won't hurt anything except maybe you mpg a bit. The off road perfromance was well worth the small drop in my on road mpg, to me, though.

pretty much. you may hear it the odd time, and your mpg may suffer a bit, but yeah, in 2wd, you'll hardly know it's there.

in 4wd, it will ratchet while coasting around a corner, get on it a bit, and it will lock up and it's tough as hell to steer.

rear is fun sometimes tho.
