Default Articulation

Well im sure most of you were hoping to see a badass picture of a really nice lifted cherokee doing a couple poser shots articulating. Well...im sorry. haha
Just a quick backround so you know where im coming from. Im only 16. (ya i know young) But i recently just got a 2001 4.0 2wd (who knew they made 2wd JEEPS????) cherokee sport. Now it being a 2wd i dont want to do a huge lift or anything since i dont have 4x4. But my thoughts were to do a small 3'' lift and try to get more articulation. by the way i live in Phoenix Arizona and this is a DD with a little bit of wheeling during the weekend. Now being in the desert there really isnt too much of a need to have a huge lift, and i dont plan on doing anything too difficult. Now my father wont let me do the lift. Since i cant do the lift what is the best way to get the most articulation out of a stock cherokee with 30" all terrains?

Thanks

Well first of all its articulation not acceleration just an fyi, articulation if you dont know what that is...its the flex or flexibility your vehicle has.

Now besides the sway bar disconnection, is there any other way? Like softer springs or something? Also wouldnt running without bumpstops do damage?

softer springs is going to get you a lower ride, dont do that. Taking bumpstops off depends on your self control. If you have enough control and pay enough attention so you dont hit huge ruts or speed bumps too hard, go for it. However i am 18 and can honestly say i wouldnt do that, even with my 3". As far as articulation goes the sway bar disconnect is cheap, easy, and effective. I built my own using my stock connections and some scrap metal, along with a couple of bolts for pins.

X2.. exact same situation right here. thankfully my leaf springs have started to sag so when i install new one's that give me 2.5 inches of lift i can just tell my dad that i thought they were OEM replacements

flex,
on a stock rig, the lower control arms will hit the shock mount at the axle, which will limit flex.
you can remove a fair bit of material from the shock mount, which will allow clearence for the control arm = more droop.
a set of shocks designed for 2" lift will allow even more droop front and rear, I like Old Man Emu 2" shocks for 30" tire use.
You will want to check brake line length/bind at this stage.
Do not remove your bumpstops. Bumpstops keep the shocks from bottoming out (kills shock life) and keeps your leafs from reverse flex (kills leaf life) and keeps the tires from tearing up your wheel well liner.
Factory coils/leafs are very flexy.

At some point, you'll want a quality limited slip or locker, so, start saving.

would it be a good idea to trim the shock mount? I would think it might be a little better to put an elbow in the lower control arms.... if you have the resources to do it, which is where most people run into problems. I know welding makes control arms weak but when i put my three inch on i just modified my control arms and track bar and i boxed in the the opening of the channel in my control arms to strengthen it. That way my shock mounts werent being hit.

1.) Get front sway bar quick disconnects.
2.) Remove the rear sway bar and sling it in the weeds.
3.) Remove some metal around your front shock mounts so your LCAs can allow more droop.
4.) Get longer shocks.
5.) Depending on how much droop you gain, you may want to move your front brake line hard mounts down a bit as well....or acquire a set of OEM YJ flex brakelines. They add about 4" and bolt right up.

That's about it for getting more flex out of the stock suspension.

his brake lines should be fine, usually people run into that problem when their doing a lift over 4.5 inches
