Anyone Know?
Im a little bit fresh to the world of off road. I know when in a recovery you shouldn't pull your jeep by the axle. My problem is im a college kid and tight on funds. Anyone know any good way to rig something up to the front bumper to pull? The name of the game is cheap.

Front bumper is weaker than the axle. Hitch assembly.

I have pulled jeeps, and my jeep out by the axles, dont recommend it. hitch assembly def.
|
Tow hooks mount to bumper bosses - that should do the trick. Otherwise, stick the tow-chain hooks in the frame rail holes.
|
Hit a local junkyard and look for factory tow hook bracket assemblies, they were available for front and rear. Hitches on front and rear are also good.

They made factory front tow hooks?97-01?

You can pull from the axle, but it's not really safe. You just have to pull slow and straight, if you get off center or start jerking on it you'll pull the axle out. :sweatdrop:
If you can tow it from the back, tow it using the hitch if you have one. |
yeah lol just be careful what ever you do. there was a guy on these forums a couple days ago askin for help he got pulled out of a mud hole and pulled his jeep apart :/
|
Yeah I still need to go to the junk yard to pull a hitch. They just bolt right up don't they?
|
yep, could do some welding for extra strength

These are nice: http://www.quadratec.com/products/76...googlemerchant
These are stronger. I got these because of the back plate. Solid! Easy fit too. http://www.4wheelerssupply.com/catal...products_id/50 The OEM ones are good for a few tugs, but I wouldn't yank too hard. |
Or you can save up and get these:
