Default anyone have pics oem bumper-mounted tire carrier installed?

Scored oem bumper-mounted tire carrier from CL, trying to figure out how brackets are attached to bumper/frame. Got new hardware, just wanted to make sure I drill holes in right area on frame. Thanks for any help!

first which one did you get. By the way the first one is a member on this forum I found through google.

1. the first oem tire carrier is from 87-89 and mounts to the rear panel
and latches to the bumper. like this mounts to the bumper and latches to the rear hatch. For this you need the bumper.

2. the second style is from 19990 only it looks like this.

best thing to do is take a pic. let us know.

if u picked up the 2nd style oem carrier the mounting holes for the swing are already on your xj. Remove the end cap look for the three holes on the bumper and the one on the frame. Connect the swing out to the bumper correctly first and then line up the latch to where you need it to go.

I just installed mine last week on a 2000. I used mismatched hardware and it was a bit tricky. I pretty much just Held the hole thing up to the back (striker plate and all) and moved it as far to the right as I could and marked the holes. I think if you just make sure it's all lined up you have a decent amount of wiggle room for exactly where is goes.

No. There is no rear tire carrier that I am aware of that is factory for a '97 and up XJ.
Guys have made that '96 and down carrier work on a '97 and up XJ.
Somebody here just recently did that too. But took it off cause it rattled to much he said.
Said it wasn't that big a deal to mod up though.
Finding one might be a little on the difficult side. Somewhat.
Boneyard, Craigslist, Marketplace, etc.
And a lot of times, but not all, the asking price is up there a bit.
Make sure that you research what parts make up the tire carrier.
Cause if you find one that is not still on the Jeep chances are slim that the seller will have every part.
IMO not every part is necessary, nuts and bolts can always be bought, but there are a few key peices.
Some is just support behind things and think if you don't have them won't be to hard to work around.
For instance there is a plate near the wiper on the hatch of that white Jeep above that the swing out part
locks too that the guy installed. Requires drilling holes in the hatch. There is a support plate inside the hatch for that too.
If you did not have that thinking some steel plate with the proper holes drilled in there will suffice.
Shot of what I picked up a couple years ago that I might get on my '00 one day.
