Default Amp rating for electric seat adjustment

Hello all.

Does anyone know what rating the fuse is that powers the electric seat adjustments in a 95 XJ?

I have a plug-in heated seat cover which I'm planning on wiring into the power feed for the seats but just want to make sure that I don't overload that circuit. The heated cover has a 5A rated fuse which I will wire in and I will add a second fuse before I take my new feed.

Thanks

Seat motors typically run 8-15 amps max (based on a cursory search of the web at various motors), the high end only happening when they are up against their max position or stuck on something. Your cover probably takes a little less than 5A given that it came with a 5A fuse. You can check your fuse block against the web or owners manual, but I'm pretty sure you'll find that is designed around a 15A circuit. Many newer cars don't use fuses for seat motors, but instead use a automatically resetting circuit breaker, so that it can switch off when overloaded, and then will come back on in 15-30 seconds (so that the occupant can remove whatever is blocking the seat from moving, or stop trying to run the motor up against the max position of the seat, etc.). I don't know if the 95 XJ would have circuit breakers, but I'm guessing not.

I think you will be fine with the default circuit, unless you are purposely maxing out the seat motor while -also- having the heated cover on its highest setting (assuming it has more than one setting). Considering seat motors are not a constant draw, I personally would not worry about it all that much, unless a problem became obvious after trying. The fuses are to protect the wiring, and it is the wiring quality and gauge that really determines the capacity of the circuit, not the fuse. So if you found that you pop the fuse later, adding a higher fuse would not really be an option and you'll end up having to use 2 circuits anyway.

According to this, power seats for 84-96 take a 30amp circuit breaker. I dont see any fuses for it.

I have not found anything yet for a 96 or older with heated seats to compare it with. All i found was for a 97-01, which shows a 25 amp fuse in the JB, for power and heated seats.
