alternator upgrade

so i wanna get the napa 100amp for my 89 cherokee 6cyl model. napa is telling me i will need a new bracket for it to fit? the one is the jeep is so old i can't see what size it even is. can anyone give me some information on this?

If 100a is what you're looking to upgrade to, I'm pretty sure a few brands have parts that list as fitting these 4.0's in these year ranges. I have a remanned AC Delco 100a waiting to go in in the spring and that was only $80 on amazon. Apparently it's a direct fit. If it lists as an OEM part, it should fit without modification. If it needs a bracket, it's probably not for these exact year/engine, but is close.

I'd check around for other ones - they're usually remanned, but you can find a 100a for under $100 that will list as an oem part.

On rockauto there's a Remy and ACDelco 100a remanned both just under $100.

Why just 100a? I'm no expert on the old xj's, but I put a 136a out of a Durango in my '99 just by grinding the bracket.

100a is still more than they came with stock. The more the better, sure - but even the 100a's are ~$100, and anything bigger than that is more like $200 usually. I looked into the green monster or whatever....meh. 100a is plenty unless you're running all sorts of anti-apocalyptic junk all over your jeep.

CS-130 is the model of Delco alternator on an 88.

Should have no trouble bolting in a higher output one.

99 is a different animal entirely, so disregard the post on that.

Have you upgraded your cables already?
What are you trying to accomplish?

fannitti 11-06-2014 05:52 AM

No I Havnt done the cables yet wasn't sure what company to go with yet?

You'll notice a difference with cables alone.

fannitti 11-07-2014 08:10 AM

fannitti 11-07-2014 07:41 PM

whats a better kit jeepers&creepers or kelley

steelybill 11-07-2014 07:49 PM

The 4g is the battery cables ? The output of that alternator to the power center & fuse block will maybe need a wire gauge update too (?)

I don't know. I would suspect 5-90's stuff is better. I made my own because I had everything in the shop already.

fannitti 11-08-2014 07:56 AM

5-90s?
