Alternator Change
Whoever designed that access needs to call me now!

What year?
In my '00 I take the battery box out. Takes a few more minutes but worth the trouble IMO. |
Did a 96 a week back, it was a good experience. How are you trying to take yours out?

I got it out after removing the battery box, loosening the AC drier canister to lift it out of the way, then moving the alternator aft, turning it a certain way and dropping it out the bottom. Reversing that, the new one went up into the area and then needed some serious cursing to rotate it to the correct position. It was the cursing that did it. BTW, it's a 96 XJ Sport.

I used to own a '96 but never did the alternator and for the life of my can remember the layout.
My '00 is nothing. Did remove the battery box and did it from the top. Removing the battery box was easy. When I did it I was thinking I am going to hear the "tink". You know the sound when you snap a bolt. LOL. But I got lucky. As a matter of fact had to remove and replace it twice. Have a third time coming up too. Original one froze. Had a boneyard one that I was going to bring to my guy to get the amps up. Threw that in to get by. Bought a reman which I installed to get the boneyard one to my guy. And pretty soon the rebuilt boneyard one with the amps upped will get put in. No moving any AC stuff. |
