Got a little story here and need some advice. I left my XJ parked for two years (head was cracked and no money to fix it), got some money, put a new battery in it and cranked it up to drive it onto the trailer, as soon as I opened the door an alarm system that I didn't know I had started blaring. I ripped the horn relay out to keep it from going off. This was about a month and a half ago. Now the system is starting to act up. It's causing my odometer to flash, my xfer case lights to flash, my gear shift lights to flash, and my hazards (front and back) to flash. I can't get it to stop and I have to disco the battery terminal or it'll kill the battery overnight. I tore into the dash and it's a griffin crimestopper cs 2000 model alarm. Any ideas on how to take it out and reconnect the wiring so it don't cause any problems?

 

Trace the wires for it and reconnect cut wires.

 

Sounds like an all day job almost. But if that's what it takes! I'd rather not take it to a shop for something simple like that.

 

I've run into this issue on two of my last three vehicles. Both times it was the ignition interrupt relay in the alarm system acting dodgy and causing problems. I spoke with a buddy of mine who used to install alarm systems and he didn't really have anything good to say about any of them, but he did confirm that the relays in the units are basically the cheapest thing they can find and fail often after a few years.

In both cases, it was really quite simple to trace out the wiring and remove it and restore the factory harness.
