I have just re-built a 94 xj cherokee, starts fine but will not idle and coughs and farts when I tyr to drive it. everything went back just fine but I just cant find the problem? It has to be simple like vacuum or something? anyone with any ideas what it might be?

This is not advanced cherokee tech... im moving it to OEM tech...

I had this same problem when I bought my 94 last week.. It ended up being faulty plugs because the throttle body was super dirty and I imagine getting stuck open/close.. Try removing it and cleaning it real good..

thanks for the replies,I have looked at these issues, but still have the trouble.Someone has mentioned the crank sensor which regulates the fuel as you increase revs, but I disconnected it and also took it out to check, the car wont start with it disconnected so I guess that this is not the problem.
It will Run with the brake vacuum hose disconnected and I cant see any sensor or vacuum advance control. still baffled? |
if you disconnect the crank sensor on the back of the motor attached to the tranny bellhousing then no... your jeep wont run bud... that controls your timing...
|
if itll run with the brake vacuum hose disconnected then its taking more air into the intake... you either have to much fuel or not enough air... probably your throttle position sensor... take your throttle body off and sensors out... clean it all real well... reinstall... if that doesnt fix it then i would say swap the TPS...
