Airaid intake system

Does anyone know anything about Airaid intake system for a cherokee. Is it worth getting over the stock intake system and how much is it improved if worth getting?

If it is a cool air intake you would improve alittle on HP and MPG.

Unless it has a shield to seperate it from the rest of the engine it will be sucking hot air...not helping out your performance any.

Im not sure if its cool air...it says it takes advantage of the dense cool air in that location and improves air flow up to 104%. So it will for sure increase horsepower because im definetly lacking on the on ramp getting up to speed on them highways. Do you know of any other cheap power kickers that can do me any good them are reasonable prices.

Exhause upgrade would be your next step after the CAI. You can do a cat back system or if you can afford to, start with headers and go all the way with a freeflow setup.

how much do reasonably nice headers go for?

Try these as the high end and they go to about $300.

It sure as hell isn't worth the $190 I shelled out for it. :brickwall: This has been the one purchase, for my jeep, that I keep regretting. It has done very little for performance and not too much for fuel economy either. I seriously feel stupid for admitting to owning this thing.
I'm looking into building my own intake/hidden snorkel in the near future. That way I'll actually be getting cold air into the intake, instead of hot enginge bay air.

Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? Manufacturers state these big gains from intakes but what we don't think about is that they only work if you have a free flowing exhaust. What comes in must come out so exhaust is neccessary for intake to work properly. I too installed this intake on my TJ and noticed no gains whatsoever and had my $$ returned (4wd hardware). They guy at the desk offered me a deal on an exhaust saying you will notice better gains with the combo than just the intake alone. I ended up turning down the offer and building my own free flowing snorkel which brought in cold air from outside. I am going this route with the xj as well. Cool clean air is the way to go. We all know just how damn hot it gets under the hood of our xj's. You could cook hot dogs in there im sure.

So do you guys think the best bet is to go for the snorkel instead of futsin around with the under the hood air intake system. How much in gains is the snorkel in means of performance would you think...estimate... is that worth the 300 and some for it?

The snorkel isn't designed as a performance enhancer. It's main goal is to protect the motor from water ingestion and also provide clean cool air to the TB. You won't feel much gains but the motor will be happier :) If you don't do any water crossings or drive in dusty conditions then you really don't have a need for the snorkel.

No yeah i know whats it used for i just wanted to know if it also has performance enhancibility. thanks man for the advice
