air shocks
hey guys,
I wanna get air shocks for my xj. Should I get Monroe or Gabriel shocks? Also, do you know if it will give another inch or two of lift in the rear?
Thanks,
Dan

.......................please dont put air shocks on your jeep why do you want them. for lift? if so then go buy 25 dollar lift/lower blocks, and 30 dollar coilspring spacers and theres a 2 inch lift.

I want them for towing capacity. What are the downsides of having air shocks? I had them on my old xj and I liked the adjustable psi for different loads. I'm not really interested in the lift, just curious.

well the air shock isnt going to do as much good with towing if the springs arent up to the load already. i would use a helper spring thats what i had on my old xj when i towed a big trailer it worked very well and i had no sag when loaded because of the spring, now it did make it stiffer when wheeling but not to much, and te ride quality want effected. they ran me 35 or so at advance auto. remember everyone has an opinion. this is mine.

I hear ya. I have always leaned toward Gabriel. I thought they were a little heavier. The compression rebound ratio on a Gabriel is 50/50. I think the Monroe is more like 70/30

air shocks help a lot with towing. helper springs (in my experience) only work for 6 months without putting any load on a hitch.

I recommend you get the gabriel air shocks. And by the way they work great, the back use to sag whenever i took out my huge friends out(one friend is almost 400 pounds and two are over 200) now it barely lowers in the back. And the ride is still good

The guy above is completely wrong opinion or not. Air shocks WILL help with the towing. They work a little like airbags. A good overload spring is nice but not needed. The air shocks are great for keeping the load level and the rig from sagging. Also helps with the bouncing you get from large bumps or dips in the road. I too have been looking for some for my XJ. I currently have Monroes on my other tow rig, and am looking for some for my XJ, but dont know what ones since I have 4.5" of lift. I also like the single air line, but some like the dual setup.
