aftermarket coolant temp guage
i bought a 96 2 door with a blown gasket. ended up being the head and the gasket went bad together. so i got a new head. but the new head ( keep in mind that the heads have identical casting numbers.) but the new head out of a 98 grand cherokee was missing a coolant temperature sending unit for the guage. has anybody run into this problem or something similar that have found a sollution. i would love to put in a digital temp guage so i can pull my boat around with a lil more confidence ya know?

Some years have one sensor some have two the one u have has one but is not located on the head but the thermostat housing. The ones that have two have two for a reason. One signal wire for.the computadora and one for the gauge so if urs orginaly had two sensors you have to either drill and tap or have a t fitting with both senors in it on the thermostat. This works i have done it but if u try and not use the computer sensor u will not get a proper reading

yeah ive already tried splicing into the output side of my thermostats sending unit. but when you t in, it's sets a trouble code to the computer and turns the check engine light on. i guess what im trying to find out is if anyone has made their own sending unit for the gauge in a different spot on the cooling system. like the upper radiator hose or something.

I don't mean t the signal wire go but a t fitting with the right these pattern to thread into the thermostat housing and for both sensors to screw into the fitting next to each other. It worked for me

what we did on my brothers 91 jeep (cause it had a 97 head on it) we took off the thermostat housing, drilled and tapped it so it would accept the stock 91 sensor from the head right in front of the other sensor, and extended the wire all the way to the front of the engine. no check engine light and worked great. good luck. i have a bunch of extra thermostat housings left over, i had a bunch of practice

Digital temp gauge plus a whole lot more - '96 & up OBD-II.....just plugs into the ALDL port under the dash.
