Aftermarket Air Intake
Hey all. I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and I put a cat back on last summer. I have been scratching my head on which aftermarket intake to look at picking up. There are some I have found for 40 bucks all the way up to 300 bucks. What do you run, how do you like it, and how much maintenace?

Stay stock unless you go with one that has a heat sheild. Otherwise it is just going to suck in hot air.

I got a killer deal on a used K&N Fipk system...so thats what i run. If you are patient..you can find them at a good price. I may have picked up 1 MPG So i wouldnt have paid full price for it. I noticed way more of a gain from my Ported 63MM Throttle body than the CAI...

Use any cold air intake just don't waste your money on a K&N filter unless you like dirt in your engine..There is a reason why their filters breath more...
You could get an ebay kit and fab up a heat shield for it. Main thing is to replace the tube coming off the TB with a solid one and a nice paper filter. Then heat shield and you are set..otherwise you suck in hot air which pretty much voids any benefit. |
check xj2010 write-up on his.

but if u have the cat back already you still might want to look at header ,62mm TB , and the cai to get the full potential out of all of them. but as in which one to get there isnt much diffrence from intake to intake, just dont wast your tiem with a TB spacer, two reasons they dont do much of any thing, and with some of the cai ppl say they cant fit the TB spacer TB = throttel body |
I would try and find some reviews on this, comparing them side by side. I have an Airaid on mine. Do make sure it has a shield.

i found a write up of comparing 6 or so cai but cant remember where i read it, sry

i was considering the airraid kit that uses the stock airbox. i just don't know if its worth the 200 bucks

that cuz with the cai ( wich the only true cai in take would be a snorkal for a jeep) u still get the restriction in the tappered tb. so when u added the bored out TB u let teh engine breath more.

None of the expensive kits IMHO are worth it. The gain just isn't enough to warrant the cash. You are better off spending $90 on a 62mm TB, better injectors and so on then you are a CAI. That's just my opinion though. Also those with older pre99 XJ's could do the 99+ intake manifold upgrade.
