Exclamation Ac will not engage!!

My A/C compressor will not engage when I turn it on, it just recently started doing this. The Air blows but its warm, And i do not hear the A/C kick on, The electric fan also Does not come on when i turn ac on. I have heard that if their is not a sufficient amount of refrigerant in the system that it will not engage. is this true? PLEASE HELP.
I have replaced the relay for A/C and checked the fuse

yes. that is true. go to the parts store and buy some r134 refrigerant and boost your ac back to life. if you have a leak it will only last a few days maybe a couple of weeks

this is true. If it is full you may want to see if the compressor clutch will turn by hand then is it gettig power. If so bump the clutch with a hammer to see if it will engage while running with ac on

follow the directions on the can. buy the tall can with the hose and small gauge attached. you can reuse the hose so dont throw it away.

if it does leak out slowly then you should put some r-134 with sealant in it into the system. its worked for me many times on many cars.

soon after you attach the hose.., with the ac on max, and the system starts receiving the refrigerant, the ac clutch will engage. empty the can into the system. you should be getting cold air by then

make sure ir takes 134a, what year is your jeep? it sounds like it is low on gas. if there is a gauge on the can charge it to 40 degrees F. (35 psig)that is what it is supposed to run on, if it is too low you will freeze the evaporator too high and its just gonna blow hot air.

Before charging the system try checking another possible problem.
Check your AC clutch.

Really a big pain in the #$$ to charge the system only to empty it to change the compressor.

The wire to the compressor magnet itself may be broken. I looked into this last summer when my AC was not working.Unplug the harness to the compressor, and using the battery, connect positive to the compressor wires. I remember the harness was Positive and the compresser was grounded. Placing power to the harness should produce a clicking sound of the clutch plate at the pulley engaging. If you do not hear the clicking like I did, the wire behind the pulley is broken off the magnet terminal which is grounded to the case. You have to look between the pulley and the case to see the wire going to the magnet behing the pulley. A bit tough to see, but if the wire is broken you should be able to see the break moving the wire gently.

You could do what I did and trick the system by connecting the two terminals gong to the pressure switch with a paperclip. If the clutch engages (with the AC on), then you are low. If not, there is another issue.

Or check the continuity with a multi meter on the pressure switch. If it is an open circuit, it is too low.

Well one friens told me to just press the high spot connector in and if I dont hear anything its out. I think I will try the paper clip thing when I get home, its getting hot where I live lol
