Hey everyone,
My air conditioning doesn't work, hasn't since the day I bought it. Now I'm feeling ambitious and I want to try and fix it.
When I turn on the air conditioning it blows air but it never gets cold. Ran it for over a half hour and nothing. I did some searching online and found out the cold/hot switch could be the issue with the cable that connects to the switch. I checked this and it is fine, so it's not that.
So, next I'd like to test the ac clutch. I've seen a video on YouTube on where a guy started the clutch on his Grand Cherokee by jumping it at the connector while his jeep was running. Problem is it's a little different in a regular Cherokee and I'm not sure which connection to jump and is it safe to do this as it's running? Dealing with electrical stuff scares me a little.
Is it this one?

Also, if the clutch turns out to be fine (doubtful) I'm going to try adding more refridgerant/coolant/whatever you call it. So which one of there is the high and low pressure inlets? (red = low I think?)

Thanks in advance!

I have the same issue. Mine is a 2000 so might be different but here goes:
First check the A/C clutch fuse in the box under the bonnet, I think its a big 20amp and clearly labelled.
If that's OK check the Relay which again is clearly labelled, it's one of the small Siemens ones. You can check that by taking one of the other ones out (ABS) as they are the same or carefully prising the top of yours and gently closing the contacts yourself with a fine point. With the ignition ON but no engine you should hear a click from the clutch fan, this can easily be heard. ( Make sure you have selected A/C on the dash.
I ran mine with a tiny zip tie to keep the relay closed but still no cold air.
I am going to get mine re-gassed and test again. If it doesn't work after that I will leave it as I live in Scotland and have very little need for it
just curious to see if it works!!
My layout in the bonnet is different to yours (RHD), my compressor is tucked low down out of sight on the right of the block and all the other stuff is at the back on the right. The fuse box is in the same place though.

Here's some video I shot to confirm the clutch was the issue on my 90' XJ;
