AC ...????

Hi guys!!! I have an 01 cherokee 4dr sport /4.5 BDS LIFT rims and 33" tires. I love my rig. I just had to replace an AC LINE. I cleaned up and down where the line was being replace exercising extremely clean practices. I charged the system all was well for two weeks cold AC happy owner. Then it just stopped being cold. My clutch is not engaging but there is sufficient pressure 38 psi in the green zone. Any ideas other than a possible bad compressor like a bad sensor or something??? Thank you in advance for any welcomed advice.

Ac pressures are checked with compressor running ? 38 psi with compressor not engage .

Get a set of real manifold gauges. It's two gauges that will tell you pressures on both the high and low side of the system. You can rent them for free from some auto parts stores.

Read the pressure on both sides of the system (high pressure and low pressure). The high pressure should fluctuate as the compressor kicks on and off.

Report back with low pressure, and both high pressure readings (max, min).

XJ Snake

The problem is the compressor is not cycling. I am not sure if there is a sensor or something that would prevent that from happening. It was working fine no unusual noises or anything. Thanks for the assistance.

Im still really new to this forum and trying to get the hang of how to reply and stuff but The compressor is not cycling which is why I was asking if anyone knew of a sensor that would cause that to happen or if its just a bad compressor.

So Clutch is not engageing correct ?

Did you pull a vacuum on the system after you replace the hose and before you recharged the system? If not that me be your problem. With out getting all of they air out of the system that will shorten the life of the compressor and cause it to fail.

DEEPSEAGOD 06-14-2013 02:36 AM

Correct.

DEEPSEAGOD 06-14-2013 02:38 AM

RTorrez1- no I didn't draw a vacuum. I thought the vacuum was just to evaporate the residual moisture in the system.

Freegdr- correct te clutch is not cycling.

Sounds like you have a leak in the system somewhere. If the refrigerant is low the compressor will not come on. The reason for pulling vacuum is to remove any moisture AND remove air. Air makes poor refrigerant.
Good luck finding the leak.

It is, Along with any air in the system. When ever you open the system. Even to change out a hose you have to pull a vacuum on the system. You can jump the compressor to see if it is still working and if it is take it to a ac shop and have them pull a vacuum and recharge it. Hopefully you will be good to go after that.
BTW, If you do a search on here and you should be able to find the proper way to jump the compressor. Sorry I don't have the link for it at the moment.

I appreciate the help. Thanks

No leak, the refrigerant is at the correct amount. Thanks for trying.

This is Hawaii snake! I had to spend 250$ for a code reader because they passed a law that said the stores like O'reilys and auto zone could no longer read codes for free because it was taking money from local business. Major B.S.
