Abs to non abs axle
 

Ok folks just got my new engine today. Going to drop in this weekend and then move to my 8.25 axle sitting in the garage. Was wondering what problems I will have. I have a 98 with d35 and abs. The 8.25 also came from a 98 but I understand jeep did not come with that axle/abs combo. What problems am I going to run into? Unplug relay and fuse or will abs hook up to this axle?

I have not heard of anyone using abs with that axle,unless you have the tone ring on the axle for the abs pick-up your abs will not work and you will get an error or malfunction. If you unplug it you will not have the abs pump or brakes. I switched mine over from abs to normal. It is not that hard,just need to remove your abs and install standard brakes from a donor xj.you will need booster and brake lines.

Hey When you changed the Brakes from ABS to Normal did you use a specific year XJ? I have ABS in My 1990 XJ and there is a donor XJ down the street but its a 1989 but it has a complete different brake system. Would that work? or do I need to try to find a 1995 like everyone else did?

I am not sure of the year but it was not that new,meaning 95. most of these things are the same,jeep did not change much. The biggest issue I had was the brake lines,removing them on the fronts was a pain and I bent them,so I went back to the jy and found a donor with the motor and some of the harness removed then it was simple,the rear ones are easy. I took parts from if I remember 3 different xjs.
Just look at everything very close.

YeahI read some different articles in here and saw that the '95 was the best compatible year for the brake swap. Im going next weekend to the JY to get it.
