99 XJ, oil pressure gauge stays at 20
99 XK with ~245k miles. Just noticed that the oil pressure gauge reads a steady 20 psi regardless of engine speed. The oil pressure sender unit has never been replaced. Is this a typical failure mode of the sender? Going to try to rent a mechanical gauge tomorrow to verify it. Up until this point, it's had good oil pressure, 60 cold and then 30-40 at hot idle.

Most likely sending unit.
Verify it with a mechanical gauge if you like, otherwise get your mitts on a Mopar sending unit (best for reliability/accuracy/mating with your factory gauge) and install it.

Better than renting, buy a Bosch gauge for under $20 and then you always have it available.
