Default 99 xj defroster

My 99 xj defroster seems to close the windshield vent when i put it on defrost. This happens at all fan speeds. Dash and floor vents blow air out great . Any solutions to this problem?

I think he means it's keeping the defroster door closed instead of opening it and not allowing the air to flow along the windshield to defrost it...

Default vent

Yes. I mean when the vent selector is selected for the wind shield , it closes.

Does the selector **** work? Does it change it from vent to floor? Does it change on its own when you start driving?

If so I would check for vacuum leaks as he said... I have run across 3 XJs that all had wierd problems with defrost and vent selection and it turned out to be vacuum leaks.....
ck the vaccum can and make sure it is hooked up. ck the large vacuum line hat runs beside the battery for breaks or disconnected somewhere.
