Default 99 sport v6 into a 98 grand cherokee (v6 also)

I just purchased a solid 99 sport that has cosmetic issues, can I put the engine in my 98 grand cherokee?

4.0L inline 6 from a 99 XJ into a 98 ZJ? Yes, ZJ and XJ blocks are interchangeable. Do either of the engines look like V6es to you?

Nobody seems to know what the "I" or "V" mean anymore.

Not trying to be a jerk but if you can't tell a inline 6 from a v6,Pay someone to swap the engines for you.

When I was little and my dad told me that the Jeep had 6 cylinders that go straight up and down, you'd laugh at what I imagined. Think of a v6 but instead of the cylinders at an angle, they go vertical but are still arranged in a "6 pack" configuration. Imagine the crazy connecting rods it would need for that to work! Lol

Two straight threes with connecting gears lol. Plenty of applications with twin straight sixes

Lol yep. Bently has this nasty W12 thing which is like two V6es in a single block. Two cranks mated by gears. There were also twin I6s done with a very strange driveline, and some mated into a single unit right by the factory (WWII tanks).
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/U_engine#Diesel Scroll down to "single crankshaft" under Variations

There's a GMC truck V12 made from 2 V6s also.

Oh yeah GM loved to do that, but those are in series with a single 12-cyl crank not hobbled together side-by-side. Detroit Diesels have a lot of those combinations to maintain parts compatibility with smaller engines (24v71 is two 12v71 blocks with six 6-71 heads, but a single massive crank)
