99 Netural Safety Switch Again?

Old newbie looking for help. In May had a no start, researched the forum, cleaned the NSS and no problems till a couple days ago. Shunt to ground and no start so pulled the switch, inspected, reinstalled and still no luck. Purchased a new one from Advance Auto ($281 returnable?) installed it, same problem. No engine codes, good battery and swapped starter relay. Any ideas.

My 2000 is doing the same. I still need to clean and adjust my NSS.

When you turn the key, have you tried to wiggle the shifter up or down to see if it will start? That is the only way I can get mine to start right now. Most of the time I have to push the shifter lock button and move the shifter slightly towards reverse while turning the key. Its a PITA, but it hits a sweet spot and will catch.

when my nss went bad, it shorted internally. it use to pop a 20 amp fuse under my passenger side kick panel when i put it in reverse. that fuse protected something in my A/C circut, my DRL's and a power supply to ecu. If the ecu dosent see that power, the ecu wont go through the self checks (no engine light), and wont give power to the stuff that makes it go vroom vroom(turn the fuel pump on, send power to the coil).

I cant remember if it disabled the starter control relay tho.

Ive had no fuses pop. No ground outs either. Just a touchy shifter location. I plan on taking a look at it this weekend. I will let you know what I find. I too dont want to pay 250 on a switch. Reason #1 not to integrate too many things into one unit.

Although I had the same symptoms of my original May nss problem, I now found corrosion in the positive battery/starter cable. Cleaned it up and everything seems fine now. Thanks for the suggestions.
