If anyone is interested in this swap I can give you some details, I thought because they both were 4.0l that it would be a easy one. . If you are mechanically inclined and have access to various machinist tools you should be able to do. There are some drilling and tapping required, some grinding and a machined bushing to be made.

i did a similar swap with a 2002 WJ 4.0 into a 89 cherokee. i think it was about 16 holes to drill and tap in the block. there is a spot behind the timing cover that has to be made thinner to fit the 89 accessories. used the 89 water pump but had to drill a new hole for one of the bolts. used all the 89 parts including manifolds. started right up and runs great.
