Default 99 Cherokee Airbag Question

S am looking at this project Cherokee that hit a snowberm. Both airbags deployed and front end was damaged. The guy cranked it over, but there is no hum from the fuel pump. He stated that both airbags need to be replaced, front end crash sensors and the relay under the back seat before it will start.

Airbags at Morris 4x4 are about $800 (drivers) and $1150 (passenger). This would be a spendy fix'er-upper.

Any ideas for a better plan? We have no junkyards here in this town, everything is crushed and sent south to recycle so that's not an option.

They are correct, just checked procedure on chryslers site:

Any vehicle which is to be returned to use after an airbag deployment, must have both airbag modules, the passenger side airbag module door and the clockspring replaced. These components will be damaged or weakened as a result of an airbag deployment, which may or may not be obvious during a visual inspection, and are not intended for reuse.
Other vehicle components should be closely inspected, but are to be replaced only as required by the extent of the visible damage incurred

Good luck!

Dang! So, for $400 I can get a vehicle that will cost me over $2k just to see if it will start, and then (and only then) find out what else is wrong with it.

Another quick question: do they have to be replaced before the engine will get a signal allowing it to start? I have one airbag enroute already. I haven't been able to find an engine control unit logic diagram that says it needs this signal from the airbag control unit first.

All the more experienced wrenches say the Cherokee has no inertia cutoff switch for the fuel system. I haven't been able to verify that by the wiring diagrams and ECU logic.
