99 Cherokee
I've had this vehicle for about 8 months and never had a problem with it, but the other day I was going down the road about 40 mph and the engine just shuts off, no stutter, nothing, it was just gone. The lights, ac, and everything else kept working. I cranked it back up and it ran fine till I got back home. A few days later it shut off again and wouldn't crank for about 10 minutes, and now it won't crank at all, so any ideas?

Welcome to CF!
The symptoms sound like a failing/failed Crank sensor. Check the wiring to it and check for a signal from it before changing it though. Put a continuity tester on the pins and turn the crank over by hand one complete revolution (take the spark plugs out to make that easier). You should lose continuity 3 times every revolution. If you do it with power on and probes in the connector, the voltage should change from 5.0 volts to 0.0 volts 3 times. It's a magnetic switch. Or just change it. Your choice. If you do, use a Mopar part so you don't have to do it again. |
Thank you...I replaced the sensor and havent had any problems since then. I guess thats what it was
