Default 98 xj runs horrible after dead battery

So I left my lights on at school today and when I came out dead battery of course. But after I jumped it off it acts like it wants to bogg down or cutting off. This has happened before and goes away after a couple days. Any thoughts or suggestions (not turn your lights off) lol would be appreciated

How old is the battery? Normal batteries dont like to be drained, especially if they are oldish. Have your battery tested, clean the battery terminals, freshen up the grounds in the engine compartment.

Its a semi old interstate battery. Its got a lifetime warranty so I might as well get a new one. But would the battery cause it to run like crap?

My vote for getting the electrical system tested. After the battery dies it would have to go through readiness tests but in no way should that cause what you are saying.

There's no cel on. And I agree that the battery shouldn't cause it. But it is clearly linked with it dying. If the xj doesn't die it runs great. If it does it runs like junk. Im gonna start with the basics and also try to keep it from dying. Have y'all ever heard of anything similar before?

To clarify the electrical system is the battery/ alternator. So get those tested.

I'm having a similiar problem with my 98 also... today I was out mashing it through some snow and the the check gauges came on and my battery voltage went to zero but nothing happened at that point, I went through the car wash about an hour and a half later. Then I shut it off about 5 min after get out it would start, once I jumped it which only took like 3 min to get it started, after I got it started it started running like crap and stalls out. Then when I leave the cables on it while its running it runs just fine. Do you think that's just the battery or do I got something else that is messin up?

Doesn't that OBDII need a few cycles to relearn? I mean yea power off for hrs to really wipe it, but dead it could loose memory...I think.

Same thing happened to my 00 GC.
I had to step on the gas for like 5 min at 1000-1500 RPMs. The problem was gone after that.

Know exactly what ya mean. Hold the petal to the floor and it eventually decides it wants to go

If the battery is "semi old", I say replace it with a good, hot battery and see if that doesn't improve things.
